A lot of this has to do with the first impression a person has when seeing a house. First impressions matter a lot, and here are a few things to know about this if you want to sell your house soon.

Why first impressions matter so much

First impressions with anything in life matter a lot. Think about how an employer views a candidate for a job. Most employers base some of their thoughts on their first impressions of the person. The same is true for a house. If people pull up to your house or walk into your house and get negative feelings, thoughts, or images, it could automatically cause them to not want to buy your house. Because of this, you should do all you can to make sure each potential buyer's first impression is a good one.

There are multiple things that can affect a buyer's first impression, including the following:

  • Cleanliness and neatness – If someone pulls up to your home and sees junk all over the ground, it may automatically make the person feel like you did not keep up on the maintenance of your house. If they pull up to a nice, clean yard, they may feel more positive about your home from the start.
  • Smells – Bad odors also make first impressions negative. If possible, eliminate all the bad odors from your home before you begin showing it.
  • Bold colors – Another thing that can turn off buyers is bold colors on walls. If the walls in your home have bright, vibrant colors, consider repainting your walls before listing your home.

A good agent can help you locate features of your home that might not be appealing to buyers, and you should take your agent's advice and make all the necessary changes.
